Here it is, I found it the piece of tatting that my great grandmother handed me when I was pregnant with my second child, her sister Brittie tatted it, maybe some 20-30 years earlier, it was all crunched up from where it had been tucked in the back of a momento drawer. She had some more in the little plastic bag, but this was such a pretty pink, she said to put it on the edges of the baby's socks. Which one? the toddlers? but would it hold up? She assured me that tatting was some pretty tough stuff.
Mandy was only 18months at the time,I knew her foot would grow to quickly, so we used some 'fancy easter socks'that my aunt had from her daughter that would have fit a 4-5yr old. They were Nylon, we took the nylon lace off that was there and she showed me how to mount the tatting. That was the summer of 1980.
Yes, that is cotton tatting on a stretchy Nylon sock. Here it is after it has been through 2 kids and in my washer several hundreds of times, and alone. The mate was lost some years back.
My great grandmother was right tatting is some pretty tough stuff.
